Is it possible to add fractions? How do you add fractions?
Yes. For mixed numbers, you have a whole part and a ‘p/q’ number or the fraction. Look at the figure given below. It is simple when one knows how to add fractions. There are two ways of doing this.
7 2/3 + 4 7/12
The first number is 7 and two by three, to which one has to add 4 seven by twelve. Adding the whole parts is simple. We get 11. In order to add the fractions you need to find out the common denominator. Here the numbers are three and twelve.
Multiply three and twelve and we have thirty-six. This is the common denominator. Therefore, the first fraction becomes 2 x 12 = 24 upon 36 and the second fraction becomes 7 x 3 = 21 upon thirty-six. Add the two numbers 24 and 21 to get 45. 45 /36 = 1 9/36. This is nothing but 1 ¼. Adding this to 11 the answer becomes 12 ¼.
7 2/3 + 4 7/12 =12 ¼
This is decimal addition and subtraction.
12.50 – 8.40 = 4.10
4.35 + 6.54 = 9.89
One represents $12 and 50¢ as $12.50.
If you make a purchase for $8 and 40¢ how much money will be left with you? You can deduct 8 from 12 to get 4 and deduct 40 from 50 to get 10. This means you will have $4.10.
