India at Commonwealth Games 2014: India Drops 8 Athletics Team Members

Glasgow Commonwealth Games2014 commencing on July 23 will see a vastly reduced athletic contingent. The 4 X 100 men’s relay team and women’s triple jumper Renjith Maheshwary have been left out reducing the athletic squad to mere 33. Fifteen members are yet to leave for Glasgow, the rest have gone already. 

The women’s 4 x 100 m relay team and the 4 x 400 m relay team, Sahana Kumari (high jump), Annu Rani (javelin throw), Seema Punia and Krishna Poonia ( discuss throw) are stars who will bring in medals in the women’s section. In the men’s section,  the 4 x 400 m realy team, triple jumper Arpinder Singh, Om Prakash Karhana (shot put) and Kamalpreeth Singh ( hammer throw) are expected to give sterling performances.They have their personal trainers to help them.



Of the 17 sports events featuring 261 medal categories, India will not be participating in three events – rugby sevens, triathlon and netball. Sports ministry of India had cleared 215

members in 14 categories for participating in the Commonwealth Games 2014 being held in Glasgow. Jitu Rai will not compete in pistol event since he did not qualify in time. Among other medal hopes Abhinav Bindra, Indian hockey team and Parupalli Kashyap the badminton player are expected to perform well.
