Maharashtra Celebrates Maharashtra Day

May 1 is Maharashtra Day. This year is the 54^th year of coming into existence for this state. Maharashtra commemorates this day by taking out a parade in its capital city of Mumbai. All institutions, stock market, offices and schools remained closed.

At the parade, Governor K. Sankaranarayanan took the salute while minister of state for social justice Shivajirao Moghe took the salute at Kasturchand Park ground. In Bandra, a prominent locality in Mumbai, 20 schools utilized this Maharashtra Day occasion to commemorate 800 schoolteachers.
