Fruits
are a gift to mankind. It is rightly said, the first temptation came in heaven
when Eve offered Adam a fruit. Fruits have loads of vitamins and essential
minerals that our body requires on a daily basis. So, one should not wait for
Eve to come by and “tempt” you with any offerings but should rather try to
supplement the daily diet with fruits. It will help you maintain physical vigor in family life.
I
seriously began to think about fruits. I got the low down on some of them and
here it is. Avocado is loaded with Vitamin C, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium.
The only fruits to beat Avocado in Vitamin C were Pineapple and Mango. The
fruit that came close to Avocado in potassium content was Banana. Banana also
has good magnesium content.
So,
what do these minerals and vitamins do? Food and health are inter-related. Magnesium is required for metabolism, helps the body fight fatigue
and supports brain functioning. In addition, it also helps one lose abdominal
fat. Magnesium is vital for physical functioning and muscle movements.
Phosphorus is present mostly in the bones. It helps make the teeth and bones
strong. Phosphorus helps you create daily energy you require and use. It also
helps the body absorb that vital nutrient Vitamin B.
Phosphorus
is only next to calcium in being the most abundant mineral in the human body.
It is part of all cell membranes giving them strength and is a component of ATP
our energy storage molecule. You require about 800 mg per day. If you go over
the top and take it in excess, it will interfere with your calcium metabolism.
Phosphorus
is found in eggs, fish, fowl, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Vitamin C is useful
in keeping your skin and hair glowing and healthy. It makes up part of tendons,
ligament, skin and they defend the body against free radicals. They boost the
immune system and help heal wounds – sounds like my best friend!
In
addition, Vitamin C has anti-aging properties and helps iron absorption required
to maintain healthy red blood cells. Potassium is required by the body to build
proteins and muscle. Helps in breaking down carbohydrates and keeping metabolism
ticking. Electrical activity that makes the heart go on is also dependent on
potassium. Meats, vegetables like broccoli, tomatoes, potatoes, fruits like
bananas, kiwi and apricot contain good amounts of potassium.
When
potassium is less in your body, it will lead to muscle and body weakness and
abnormal rhythms of heart. If you have too much then you are likely to have
abnormal heart rhythms. This could happen due to infections, kidney not
functioning properly as also through medications. Recommended dosage for
potassium is 4.6 g per day.
Supplementing
the diet with fruits helps us keep our energy levels while augmenting metabolic
functions. All fruits help in reducing weight simply because they have lesser
calories per weight. They are the healthiest food. Avocado, pears, bananas, mango, watermelon, oranges and
apples are very high in nutritive content. Moreover fruits only have healthy fats.
